Kolmanskop, Namibia

I had seen this place before in other works and stumbled upon this on a roadtrip across Namibia in 2017. A former diamond mining village in the turn of the century, Kolmanskop was occupied by European settlers who saw this as a change to make their riches.

As many of these stories go, this one was no different - the place ran out of places to mine and suddenly was a bust. What remains is hauntingly stunning. Most buildings are still intact structurally, but any crack in the walls and windows allows these striking dunes to settle, concealing secrets (and snakes), but recreating itself every morning by erosive coastal wind.

I spent a small amount of time here wandering and finding the spaces and shapes which intrigued me. Sun and shadows played together on ripples, and much like the Goliaths Series, these likely will never be seen this way again in this way as the wind takes it away each and every day.
